Donald E. Brown



Donald E. Brown, 89, died at 12:06 p.m. June 26, 2000, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 19, 1910, in Bellefontaine to Marshall R. and Mary Bell Arnold Brown. On Sept. 25, 1935, he married Matilda M. "Tillie" McAlexander, who died June 4, 1999.

Mr. Brown had been a suprintendent for IGA Stores in Ohio and had owned/operated several grocery stores in Alger and Bellefontaine. He was a member of the Lafayette United Methodist Church, Lafayette, and a former member of the Bellefontaine Church of Christ, Bellefontaine. He was a member of Lodge 209 Free and Accepted Masons, Bellefontaine, Lodge 344 Free and Accepted Masons, Ada, the Ohio Indian Craft and Culture Organization, the Ohio Gun Collectors Association and the National Rifle Association. He was the first Boy Scout leader in Logan County.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Thomas E. (Shirley) Brown of Centerville and James R. (Louise) Brown of Lima; a daughter, Bonne (Dan) Booher of Harrod; five grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, a grandson and a stepgrandson.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. The Rev. Ron Briggs will officiate. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery, Huntsville.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until time of services Friday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the activites departmetn of Lima Health and Rehabilitation Center or the American Lung Association.
