Richard G. "Dick" Baker



Richard G. “Dick” Baker, 74, died at 2:25 a.m. April 16, 2008, at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Lima to Elvin G. and Mae Lucille Dotson Baker, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 6, 1954, he married Lucille Burkholder, who survives.

Mr. Baker was a self-employed custom auto manufacturer and had owned and operated Kenny’s Auto Wrecking. He was a member of Lafayette Congregational Christian Church, Lafayette. He was a 1951 graduate of Lafayette-Jackson High School. He loved his family and working on cars.

Survivors also include two sons, Richard G. (Connlee) Baker Jr., of Bluffton, and Tony L. (Donna) Baker, of Lima; two daughters, Connie J. Baker, of Bluffton, and Susan K. Baker, of Lima; three brothers, Elvin (Becky) Baker, of Prescott, Ariz., Carl Baker, of Lima, and Robert (Connie) Baker, of Waldron, Mich.; four sisters, Janet Garberson, of Rimer, Carolyn (Joe) Schmidt, of Vaughnsville, Marilyn (Bob) Welch, of Bluffton, and Joyce (Doug) Brown, of Ada; and seven grandchildren, Jesse Gast, Megan Gast, Luke Gast, Amanda Baker, Timothy Baker, Matthew Baker and Jackie Baker.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Keith Garberson.

Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Juergen A. Waldick will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
