Virgil E. Bruno



Virgil E. Bruno, 88, died at 1:45 a.m. Sept. 7, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born June 1, 1917, in Lima to Humberto and Caterina Pisanelli Bruno, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 30, 1948, he married Jean M. O'Brien, who died March 14, 1992.

Mr. Bruno retired in 1981, as a foreman from Sheller Globe/Superior Coach. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945. He was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include four children, Carol (Joel) Wheeler of Lima, David (Sue) Bruno of Flower Mound, Texas, Ray Bruno of Lima and John (Lisa) Bruno of Irving, Texas; six grandchildren, Brian (Stacie) Wheeler, Dr. Michael (Jessica) Wheeler and Lori (Michael) Lampton, all of Lima, and Anthony (fianc&3acute;e Whitney) Bruno, Kayla Bruno and Dianna Bruno, all of Irving, Texas; and six great-grandchildren, Grant Wheeler, Brady Wheeler, Raegan Wheeler, Ryan Wheeler, Jaden Wheeler and Kyler Lampton.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Marion, Patrick, Guy, Paul and Bill Bruno.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Steve Blum will officiate.

Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hogenkamp-Weber Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross for the Hurricane Katrina victims
