Hollis D. McDonel



Hollis D. McDonel,90, died at 7:50 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008, at Lima Convalescent Home.

He was born July 29, 1918, in Elida to Harley A. and Maza A. Laman McDonel, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 20, 1938, he married Miriam Joseph, who died Feb. 5, 1960. On June 30, 1962, he married Echo M. Snider, who died Aug. 14, 1999.

Mr. McDonel retired Jan. 1, 1980, as plant manager from the Coca-Cola Bottling Works. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Lima Breakfast Optimist, Fraternal Order of Police Association, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Lodge 205 Free & Accepted Masons, the Buckeye State Sheriff's Auxiliary, the Lima Senior High School Boosters and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara L. (James P.) Fisher, of Lima, Deborah Ann (Donald) Dunbar, of Defiance, and Cindy K. (James D.) Eaton, of Lima; a stepson, R. David (Carol) Merrill, of Peoria, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, eight stepgreat-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Judy Kinnard; a brother, Lester A. McDonel; and a sister Claribel Miller.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. George Pirtle will officiate. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or the Lima City Schools Foundation.
