Richard R. Reeder



Richard R. Reeder, 78, died at 5:30 p.m. March 9, 2006, at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Lima to Mose and Blanche I. Stauffer Reeder, who precede him in death. On June 26, 1948, he married Donna R. McCreary, who survives.

Mr. Reeder retired in 1981 as a yard clerk from B&O Railroad. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He had served as president of the Ohio Fraternal Service Organization of Ohio. He was a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and its Military Order of the Cooties. He was a member of American Legion Post 96, Garrett Wykoff Lodge 585 Free & Accepted Masons, a 32nd degree Mason of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, a member of the Shriners of Antioch, Dayton, and the Lima Shrine Club. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Holder of the Boy Scouts. He was a director of the Allen County Fair Board for 25 years. He coached several youth sports in the Lima area. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in Guam with Construction Battalion (Seabees).

Survivors include three sons, Brother Bill (Barb) Reeder of Lima, Robert E. Reeder of Universal, Ind., and Timothy C. Reeder of Ottawa Hills; two daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" (Greg) Bayliff and Julie A. (Robert) Mead, both of Lima; and 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, David L. Reeder.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church. Dr. Dan Curtis and Pastor Neal Whitney will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel.
