Donelda H. Smith



Donelda H. Smith, 93, died at 10:15 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008, at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton. She was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Ottoville to Joseph and Veronica Martin Schumacher, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 6, 1935, she married K.C. Brower, who died in 1942. In 1943, she married Frank Smith, who died in 1955. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and retired in 1984 from Sylvania/Phillips, Ottawa. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, and his Altar Rosary Society. She had been a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, and its Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Leipsic Senior Citizens for 20 years and then became a member of the Ottawa Senior Citizens. She loved to travel and camp throughout the United States and overseas.

Survivors include three sons, Paul (Catherine) Brower, of Ocala, Fla., Gaylord Lee (Myrna) Smith, of Leipsic, and Merle L. (Donna-Jean) Smith, of Columbus Grove; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Alvin (Bonnie) Schumacher and Martin (Betty) Schumacher, both of Vaughnsville; and a sister, Margaret Smith, of Columbus Grove.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Vincent, Norbert and Gilbert Schumacher; and two sisters, Salome Ladden and Albert Goudy.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. Father Alfons Minja will officiate. Burial will be in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Ottawa, where a Scripture service will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the renovation fund at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
